2005-12-30: TheGunWiki.com launched

Having asked a fair number of stupid questions on forums over the years, and then seen the same questions asked again later when the answers had drifted into the archives, I felt there was a need for a wiki regarding firearms maintenance and such.

Wikipedia is nice, but its firearms articles are for reference and information. What I was looking for is a reference which actually covers what to do to maintain, repair, and improve firearms. It's the difference between procedural knowledge and factual knowledge, and in this case, the procedures are what I was looking for.

TheGunWiki is actually where I spend most of my random article-writing time nowadays, as opposed to here. This journal attempts to be informative, but it has the same problem as forums: information ultimately gets buried in the archives. In a wiki, there is no 'how recent was it?' component to searches or whatnot.
